Shams Langroodi was born in Langrood , a costal town near The Caspian Sea in 1951. He did his primary and secondary education in his hometown and graduated in Mathematics. In 1971 he entered the Maddrese Aali bazarghani( university of finance) and got a BA in Economics in 1974.
He soon found a job as the expert in agricultural economy in the Ministry of Agriculture in
He could get access to Iranian rich classical literature since childhood through his father who was a man of letters. And from early youth he grew a passion towards modern literature especially modern poetry.
In 1977 he published his first poetry book titled :" Raftar-e Teshnegi' ( Behavior of thirst).
He quitted his job and left
He took up different jobs to earn the living such as teaching in different levels, accounting and etc…
He was arrested as a political activist in October 1981 and spent 6 months in jail. After the release from the prison he looked for a job and for a long time he was not able to find one. He finally got a job as an editor of historical books in the
Since 1994 Shams Langroodi has been invited to various academic and cultural centers throughout the world to recite his poetry and give speeches on Iranian literature. He spent nearly the whole 90s abroad during which he met prominent international figures such as Seamus Heaney,(Nobel Prize winner) Cislaw Milos,( Nobel Prize winner) Adonis,( famous Arab poet) Paul Suisie(the former editor of Monthly Review)and etc…

His works have been nominated for literary prizes many times most of which have been refused by officials. But private literary circles have awarded prizes such as Jalali Prize( for poetry) in 2002 and Goharan Prize(for literary achievements) in2008.
His poetry has been translated to some other languages .His latest book of poetry "53 Love Songs" was translated into Kurdish and Arabic.
